How to write Reviews For Gutterfags

Yes, we are actively looking for writers and scholars interested in reviewing sequential art about dude-on-dude lust and love.  We have a few inflexible conditions:

1) No conflict-of-interest reviews: You cannot review books by friends who need the publicity, people who have published you or people you have published.  That's what The Comics Journal and Amazon reviews are for.  This is why we are not permitting any reviews of Sticky Graphic Novels on the site, either!

2) Reprint reviews are OK if they meet the terms of items 1 through 4 and you own the copyright on the review.

3) The books have to be reviewed by people who actually like comics on the subject matter, care for the material and want people to know why they work or how they could work better with attention to the details that make them work or not work. Reviews of the "Timid Yaoi Elves is not for me but it should be for someone else" kind of review, which are the bane of the genre, will not pass our editorial muster.  We do not want you to review books you know are not for you. If I assign you a book and you know it's not for you, let me know ASAP so I can reassign it and assign you a new one.  All our reviewers have their specialties and you should be aware of yours.

4) Reviews are 1000 to 2000 words in length and college-level in content. This link explains the minimum we expect from Gutterfags reviewers: http://writingcenter.unc.edu/handouts/book-reviews/ . You can focus on the content of the work or the style of the work or both if you like as long as you do it thoughtfully and at some articulate depth.

Please contact us at gutterfags@gmail.com if this insterests you.  If you know what work of sequential art you want to review that fits the above conditions and the content charter of the website, let us know.  Otherwise, we can suggest a book that might be up your alley (to coin a phrase) .
